Tigers Fall 8-1 in Series Finale Against Knights

ORLANDO – Memphis was unable to overcome an early 4-0 deficit, and UCF added on late in an 8-1 Knight victory in the series finale between the two teams.
Three players – Regan Hadley, Kyler Trosclair, and Jessie Lamb – each had a hit, while Hadley scored the team's only run from a Lamb RBI.
Molly Smith fell to 9-12 on the season in picking up the loss, striking out two in two innings of work, while allowing four hits and two earned runs.
UCF struck first in the game when the Knights loaded the bases with the first three batters of the inning. After a force-out at home plate, UCF scored on a throwing error at what would have been the second out of the inning. After a strikeout, UCF hit a two-run single to put the hosts ahead 3-0.
An inning later the Knights added to their lead with a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers were sat down in order in each of the first three innings, and the first hit came with two outs in the fifth inning, as Memphis strung together all three of its hits from back-to-back-to-back batters.
Hadley had the first hit of the game, and was followed by a single through the left side from Trosclair. Lamb followed a batter later with a single through the right side to score Hadley. A groundout to the pitcher ended the threat in the game, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
The bottom of the fifth inning the Knights added two runs with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. A two-run double in the bottom of the sixth gave the game its 8-1 final score.
Five UCF players had two-hit efforts in the game, as Shelby Turnier picked up the win to improve to 15-13. She struck out seven over six innings, scattering three hits and a run.
The Tigers host their next four games, including on Wednesday, April 27 at 5 p.m. against UT Martin.
