Memphis Drops Extra-Inning Game to Austin Peay

Memphis will next travel to No. 2 Mississippi State for a game Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Freshman starter Jonathan Bowlan had the best outing of his young career, tossing a career-high six innings and allowing just two runs.
Chris Carrier returned to the lineup went 2-for-4 with two doubles in the game, while Brandon Grudzielanek also went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs.
Memphis scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning after a two-run single up the middle by Brandon Grudzielanek.
The Tigers added a run to the lead in the second after Chris Carrier doubled down the left field line with one out. Corey Chafin drove him in with a single to center field.
Austin Peay got on the board in the third inning after a single and two walks loaded the bases. The Governors' first run of the game came home on a bases-loaded walk.
Carrier smashed his second double of the game in the fourth inning to drive in two more runs. A hit batter ended the starting pitcher's day on the mound as Austin Peay turned to Keirce Kimbel out of the bullpen.
Jake Overbey drove in a third run in the inning off of the reliever with a squeeze bunt that scored Carrier to make the Tigers' lead 6-1.
The Tigers put one more run on the board in the bottom of the fifth after Little singled on a bunt and scored on a double by Grudzielanek.
Bryan Cruse entered to pitch in relief and worked a perfect top of the seventh inning. The Governors were able to get to Cruse some in the top of the eighth though, scoring two runs on a walk and two singles.
Nolan Blackwood was called on to close it out in the ninth but Austin Peay scored three runs off of the junior closer to tie the game, 7-7, and send it into extra innings.
Austin Peay scored two more runs in the top of the 10th off of Drew Crosby to win the game.
