Men’s Tennis Edged by #36 Princeton, 4-2

Watson and Peniston pick up wins atop the singles lineup.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team (7-7, 1-1 American) tangled with an 12-4 Princeton team, but fell just short, 4-2, in the opening round of the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic, Thursday. Memphis will move in to the consolation bracket and will facing the team that loses the match-up between #8 Texas Tech and #76 San Diego State. If the Tigers' Friday opponent is San Diego State, they will play at 2 p.m. (PT). If it's Texas Tech, they'll play against at 10 a.m. (PT).
The two teams split the top two doubles matches. Princeton won 6-4 at one doubles, and Memphis won at two, also 6-4. That brought it down to things at three. That match went all the way to 7-5, with Princeton prevailing and taking the 1-0 lead.
Memphis proceeded to get singles wins from its top two spots in the lineup in straight sets, but Princeton used wins at three, four and six to seal the victory. Andrew Watson won his match at one, 6-3, 6-2, and Ryan Peniston won 6-3, 6-1 at two singles, but Princeton prevailed at four singles, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.
