Hanna Sohn picks up first career singles win at number one.

MEMPHIS – Sophomore Hanna Sohn picked up her first career win at number one singles, but that was the lone point the Memphis women's tennis team (1-3) could get on the board in a 6-1 loss to #45 ranked Purdue at the University Club of Memphis, Sunday.

Memphis, who was again without junior Anki Wind, the Lady Tigers' normal player at number one singles and doubles, saw the number one tandem of Sohn and freshman Janina Berres break back, then hold, for a 5-3 lead at number one, but before the duo could pick up their first win together, Purdue closed out wins at two and three doubles for the team doubles point and a 1-0 lead.

With four indoor courts at the University Club, singles matches one, two, five and six went on first. Purdue claimed wins at six, two and five to secure the win, and one point later, Sohn grabbed the Memphis win at number one, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Purdue would take the matches at three and four in straight sets to move to 6-3 on the year, while Memphis falls to 1-3.

Memphis is back on the road next week, playing a pair of matches in California at UC-Santa Barbara, beginning Saturday. Memphis will face UC Santa Barbara, Saturday, at 9 a.m. (PT) and then will play a neutral site match that afternoon at 1 p.m. against Washington State.
