Women's Basketball To Host Vanderbilt In Televised Game

Memphis welcomes the Commodores in final non-conference game of the season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team returns to action Wednesday afternoon to take on Vanderbilt in a game televised on ESPNU. Tip-off against the vote-receiving Commodores is scheduled for 4:02 p.m. at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

Memphis is currently riding a three-game winning streak to improve to 6-6 overall after defeating Southeast Missouri, Louisiana Tech and Nicholls State prior to the Holiday break. This game against Vanderbilt is the fourth-straight home game for the Tigers. Throughout the month of December and leading into January, Memphis is at home seven out of eight contests.
Against Nicholls State on Dec. 21, freshman guard Taylor Barnes put up a career-high 21 points while pulling down six rebounds and dishing out four assists to earn her way to Rookie of the Week honors in the American Athletic Conference. It was the first time this season that Memphis had a player earn a Player of the Week type honor. Cheyenne Creighton and Taylor Williams have both been put on the Weekly Honor Roll this season.
Creighton continues to lead the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game. In the last four contests, Creighton has scored 16.8 points per game which is followed closely by Brea Elmore's 15.8 points. Elmore is coming off of a 17-point, eight-rebound, and five-assist game against Nicholls last week.
Head coach Melissa McFerrin is in her ninth season at the helm of the Tiger program. Coming into the game against Vanderbilt, McFerrin is four wins shy of 150 at Memphis and 200 in her career.

Three players are averaging in double figures for the Commodores, led by Rachel Bell with 12.8 points per game. Kayla Overbeck leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 6.9 per game. She is also just shy of averaging in the double-digits with 9.3 points per contest.
Stephanie White is the head coach of Vanderbilt and is currently in her first season at the helm. The Purdue graduate is a former WNBA player and was most recently the head coach of the WNBA's Indiana Fever.
