Tigers make first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis women's soccer team is back in the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers (14-4-1) will play No. 19 Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks (17-5) finished third in the SEC and advanced to the tournament final before falling in overtime to Florida.
"It feels great to be back. It has been a long time coming," Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "This program has put in a lot of hard work in so it's good to see it paying off. Arkansas is really good and they are tough to play against. We are going to have our hands full."
Memphis is returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since making five-straight appearances from 2007-11. The Tigers advanced to the second round for the first time in 2011, beating UT Martin.
The at-large selection is the first in program history, after receiving the conference automatic bid five straight seasons from 2007-11.
The Tigers and Razorbacks have played five times since 1995 and Arkansas leads the all-time series 4-1. Memphis beat Arkansas 2-1 in overtime in the most recent meeting during the 2007 season.
Seniors Valerie Sanderson and Maryse Bard-Martel will lead the Tigers into the NCAA postseason after the four-year drought. became the Tigers' all-time leading goal-scorer this season with 52 goals. The Boisbriand, Quebec native also holds the program's career record with 122 points. Bard-Martel, also from Boisbriand, is second in program history with 44 career goalkeeping wins and is tied for second all-time with 25 shutouts.
Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling the Razorback Ticket Center at 800-982-HOGS (4647). No complimentary tickets are permitted for NCAA championship competition. All seats at Razorback Field are general admission. Adult general admission is $8 and students and children under 17 are $5.
