Tigers Rifle No. 14 In National Poll

Memphis faces top-ranked West Virginia Saturday.
MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Memphis rifle squad is ranked No. 14 in this week's Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll. The Tigers dropped five spots from its No. 9 position a week ago.
Early in October, Memphis was No. 8 in the nation and then dropped three spots to No. 11 in the Oct. 19 poll. The Tigers moved back into the top-10 at No. 9 last week, before its current No. 14 ranking.
This year's Memphis squad is following a similar pattern from a year ago. Last season, the Tigers were ranked No. 8 in the Nov. 4 CRCA poll and dropped to No. 12 the following week (Nov. 11). In the Nov. 18, 2015, poll, Memphis jumped back in the top-10 and remained there the remainder of the campaign.
In 2016-17, the Tigers have an 11-2 record against opponents ranked in the CRCA poll. In addition, Memphis has a 5-0 mark against Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) foes, including road wins at No. 15 Navy and No. 13 Army. The other three GARC wins were over No. 18 Akron and No. 11 Ole Miss twice.
Memphis last competed Oct. 29 when it posted a win over No. 19 UT Martin.
Four-time NCAA defending champion West Virginia is No. 1 in this week's poll. Murray State is No. 2, followed by TCU at No. 3, Kentucky at No. 4 and Air Force at No. 5.
All nine Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) programs are in the poll with West Virginia at No. 1, followed by No. 4 Kentucky, No. 8 Nebraska, No. 11 N.C. State, No. 11 Ole Miss, No. 13 Army, No. 14 Memphis, No. 15 Navy and No. 18 Akron.
Memphis returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 5 when it travels to Morgantown, W.Va., to face top-ranked West Virginia. Match time is 7 a.m. (CT).
