Tigers Rally for 2-2 Draw with UCF
Sep 27, 2015 | Men's Soccer
Freshman Mason Morise assisted on both of the Tigers’ goals
After trailing UCF 2-0 in the second half, Memphis battled back and scored two goals to send the match to overtime where they earned a draw to open American Athletic Conference play Saturday at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
Â
"I'm proud of the guys," Memphis head coach Richard Mulrooney said. "We could have easily put our heads down after they got a second goal. The guys responded well. We just showed a little more heart and determination that we weren't going to lose tonight. We were able to finish a few goals as well."
Â
The Knights got out to their 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute on goals from Hadji Barry and C.J. Campbell.
Â
Freshman midfielder Mason Morise was the creator on both of Memphis' goals, which came about five minutes apart.
Morise gathered a blocked shot in the 61st minute and crossed the ball back into the box, where fellow freshman Jacob Krupp was there to knock the ball across the line in a scramble.
Â
Five minutes later, the New Orleans, La. product made a great run down the left wing again and crossed into the box and junior Raul Gonzalez was at the far post to tap in the game-tying goal.
Â
Memphis goalkeeper Jake Leeker, starting for the third time this season, made two saves for the Tigers in the match.
Â
The Tigers will step out of conference play for one last non-league game against Central Arkansas, Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
