Memphis Drops Series to Tulane

The Tigers will be the No. 5 seed in next week's American Tournament
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis was swept in a doubleheader with Tulane by scores of 5-2 and 9-1 to close the regular season Saturday at FedExPark. The No. 5 seeded Tigers will play No. 4 USF Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. (CT), in the first round of the American Tournament in Clearwater, Fla.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a 35-19 overall record and a 12-12 American Conference record. Memphis and South Florida (32-22-1, 13-11 AAC) will be on the same side of the double-elimination bracket as No. 1 Houston and No. 8 Cincinnati.
GAME 1 -- Tulane 5, Memphis 2
Memphis led 2-0 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader but the Tigers were unable to hold onto it.
Darien Tubbs not only gave the Tigers their first hit of the game with two outs in the bottom of the third inning, but also their first lead with a solo home run over the wall in left-center field.
Memphis added to its lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Carter White worked a walk to lead-off the inning but was erased whenKane Barrow reached on a fielder's choice. Jake Little singled to put two runners on base.
With two outs in the fourth, Damo DeMatteo slashed an RBI single through the right side of the infield to make the score 2-0.
Tulane knotted the game up 2-2 in the top of the fifth. Garrett Deshamp led off the inning with a home run to left field. With one out Richard Carthon doubled to deep center field and moved to second on a groundout. He scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

The Green Wave then scored two more in the sixth inning to takes a 4-2 lead, which they never relinquished. Tulane tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh to close out the 7-inning game.
GAME 2 -- Tulane 9, Memphis 1
Tulane jumped all over Memphis in the top of the second inning with four runs scored on six hits. The first four hits were singles before Jackson Johnson had a big two-run double with two outs.
After a 48-minute rain delay in the bottom of the second inning, the Green Wave was back at it in the top of the third, scoring three more runs on five hits to make the score 7-0. Starter Connor Alexander started the inning but departed with no outs. Reliever Colton Hathcock finished the frame.
Heading into the fifth inning the game went into another weather delay that lasted just over an hour.
Tulane came out of that delay and tacked on two more runs to put the game away.
Memphis managed a run in the bottom of the eighth to avoid being shut out for the first time this season. Brandon Montgomery doubled to score pinch-runner Carlos Williams.
