Alex Gunn tossed his first career complete game in final game at FedExPark
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Making his final appearance on the mound at FedExPark, Alex Gunn tossed his first career complete game to lead Memphis to a 7-3 win over Tulane Thursday night. The Tigers take a 1-0 series lead for the first time this year in league play and will continue the series with the Green Wave Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Gunn allowed three runs on nine hits in the game. He struck out five batters, including the final out of the night, and didn't issue any free passes. The senior lefty improved his record to 6-1 this season.
The complete-game effort by Gunn was vital for the Tigers (35-17, 12-10 AAC), who played a 16-inning marathon game on Tuesday against UT Martin. Four key Memphis relievers were called upon to pitch multiple innings in the 2-1 win.
Memphis grabbed an early lead after Zach Schritenthal, Tucker Tubbs and Carter White each hit one-out singles in the bottom of the first inning. White's RBI single was the first of his three hits in the game.
Tulane had a quick response and took a 2-1 lead on four hits in the top of the second inning. Gunn limited the damage though, stranding runners at second and third to end the inning.
Darien Tubbs tied the game back up in the fourth inning with an RBI double in the gap in right-center field to score Nate Rupiper from first base. Darien Tubbs was 2-for-5 with two RBI in the game.

Memphis retook the lead with a big three-run bottom of the fifth inning. White andKane Barrow both started the inning with doubles to grab the lead. Jake Littlefollowed with an RBI single to plate Barrow and make the score 4-2.
With two outs in the inning Jacob Elliott popped up to center fields but the Green Wave center fielder lost the ball in the lights, allowing Elliott to triple and drive in the third run of the frame.
The Tigers tacked on another run in the sixth after Tucker Tubbs was hit by a pitch and White singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Barrow then drove in Tubbs with an RBI groundout to shortstop.
Barrow had been hitless in his last 20 at-bats before hammering the RBI double in the fifth. He finished with two RBI and one run scored.
Tulane got a pair of two-out hits, including a double, to get a run back in the top of the seventh.
Darien Tubbs made sure the Tigers got the run right back with a two-out RBI double to center field to score Jacob Elliott, who worked a two-out walk and stole second base.
