Memphis looks for 4-1 start to 2015-16 campaign.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After improving its home record to 3-0 with a Nov. 22 win over Georgetown, the University of Memphis women's basketball team looks for its first road victory of the young season Friday, Nov. 27 when the Tigers travel to Little Rock, Ark., to meet the Little Rock Trojans.
Memphis dropped its 2015-16 road opener at Kansas 72-63 Nov. 19.
The Tigers lead the all-time series with the Trojans 7-3, but Little Rock has won the last three meetings. The last two match-ups were single-digit outcomes, including one overtime game. It's an opponent that the Tigers and head coach Melissa McFerrin have a tremendous amount of respect for.
"Little Rock is very sound defensively," said McFerrin. "All they play is half-court, man-to-man defense. They don't try to pretend to play other defenses. There are no gimmicks. We like to play them because they will make you grind. I also like to play them because of their motion offense.
"They lost close games to Tulane and LSU to start the season. We know this is a team that we'll have to contend with, and we have to go to their place. After a practice earlier this week, (senior) Asianna Fuqua-Bey was telling the younger players that this team is no joke. It's been a battle every time we've played them in my time here."
