Tigers to Take on Buckeyes in Miami

MIAMI - The Memphis Tigers will look to snap its small one-game losing skid on Friday evening when the team faces off against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the second game of the Miami HoopHall Invitational Tournament.

SCOUTING MEMPHIS
Memphis will look to bounce back from its loss against UT Arlington on Monday evening at FedExForum;
In the game, the Tigers were led by 21 points from senior guard Ricky Tarrant Jr., while Avery Woodson added 11 points. Shaq Goodwin pulled down a game-high 19 rebounds, with Trahson Burrell and Dedric Lawson grabbing 12 and 10, respectively. All three missed double-doubles by less than three points, as Goodwin scored eight points, Lawson eight, and Burrell seven. Lawson also led the team with three assists and four blocked shots.
For the season the squad has three players averaging in double-figure scoring, with a fourth just off of the pace. Dedric Lawson averages a team-best 14.8 points per game, while Tarrant Jr. pours in 11.3 per game. Burrell averages an even 10 points per game, while Goodwin averages 9.5 scores per contest. Goodwin leads the team with a 9.8 rebound-per-game average, as Lawson averages 8.8 and Burrell 7.3. Tarrant Jr. has dished out a team-best 12 assists through four games, as he and Dedric Lawson have each picked up seven steals.

Ohio State and Memphis both arrive into the game off of losses, Memphis from a loss to UT Arlington, and Ohio State with back-to-back losses to UT Arlington and Louisiana Tech.
In the most recent loss to Louisiana Tech, Ohio State never led in the game, an 82-74 Tech victory. Marc Loving scored a game-high 25 points, hitting 8-of-15 shots from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe. Keita Bates-Diop scored a dozen, while Jae'Sean Tate and JaQuan Lyle each scored 10.Ā
Tate pulled down 12 rebounds for the double-double, while Lyle led the team with five assists and a perfect free throw mark (6-for-6). Forward Daniel Giddens led the team with three steals and four blocked shots while adding eight rebounds and four points.
For the season, the offense has been led by Loving, who averages 16.5 points per game, with Bates-Diop and Tate averaging 13.0 and 10.5 points per game, each. Lyle, who has a team-best 23 assists, stands fourth on the team in scoring, just off of the double-figure pace with a 9.8 scoring average. Tate pulls down a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game, as the Buckeyes out-rebound their opponents by an average of six rebounds per game.

BOARDING IT UP
After his 19-rebound effort against UT Arlington on Monday evening, Memphis senior Shaq Goodwin now has each of the top two rebounding marks in American Athletic Conference history, second only to his 23-rebound effort a season ago against Temple. His total also stands as the eight-most single-game rebounds in NCAA Division I this season.
PUTTING THE FREE IN FREE THROW
Ricky Tarrant Jr.'s 12-for-12 effort at the free throw line against UT Arlington stands as the third-most free throw makes without a miss in the NCAA this season. He trails only a 14-for-14 effort of Arizona's Allonzo Trier and a 13-for-13 outing by Howard's James Daniel. Not only is the total the third-highest without-miss mark this season, it also stands as the 18th highest makes total in the NCAA this season.
