No. 12 Tigers Rifle Finishes Second At Gamecock Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – University of Memphis junior Beth Lee had top-five performances in both smallbore and air rifle to lead the No. 12 Tigers rifle team to a second-place finish at the Gamecock Invitational last weekend. The results became official Tuesday.
Memphis placed second behind No. 3 Jacksonville State 4679-4652 and finished ahead of Columbus State 4652-4545 and UAB 4652-2240. The Tigers’ aggregate score of 4652 was their best road performance of the season to date. Memphis’ 4652 was its second-best aggregate score of the fall, second only to the team’s 4661 total at the Tiger Open in early October.
The Tigers placed second in both disciplines, scoring 2307 in smallbore and 2345 in air rifle.
Lee scored team-high performances in both smallbore (582) and air rifle (592). Overall, Lee placed fourth in smallbore and second in air rifle. Her aggregate score of 1174 was third at the event. All three of Lee’s scores were season bests.
Freshman Haylea Broughton continued to shoot well for the Tigers. Broughton placed sixth overall with an aggregate score of 1164. She also finished sixth in smallbore (576) and fifth in air rifle (588). Broughton’s 576 in smallbore tied a season high.
Senior Max Burkhardt also had top-10 finishes in both disciplines, placing eighth in smallbore (575) and seventh in air rifle (586). For a second-straight competition, freshman Makennon Doran set a season best in smallbore, posting a 574. He placed 10th in smallbore at the event.
