No. 7 Ranked Tigers Rifle Edged By Army Monday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – University of Memphis junior Elizabeth Lee and sophomore Amy Fister swept individual honors in both air rifle and smallbore Monday, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 7 Tigers dropped a narrow 4632-4326 decision at No. 13 Army.
The match was Memphis’ second in as many days, as it defeated No. 16 Navy in Annapolis, Md., Sunday.
In Monday’s competition, Memphis edged the Cadets in smallbore 2293-2292, but Army bounced back to take air rifle 2340-2333 and the overall win.
Fister took top honors in smallbore with a score of 582 just ahead of Army’s Josh Martin with a 580. Haylea Broughton (573) and Max Burkhardt (573) both tied for fourth in smallbore.
In air rifle, Lee placed first with a score of 593. Army, though, answered with the three next-highest marks. Broughton placed fifth with a score of 584.
Memphis now takes a couple of weeks off from competition. The Tigers return to action Nov. 1 when they host No. 9 Nebraska.
