No. 9 Tigers Rifle Falls To No. 7 Nebraska Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis junior Beth Lee and freshman Haylea Broughton posted fourth-place performances in smallbore and air rifle, respectively, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 9 Tigers dropped a 4667-4625 decision to No. 7 Nebraska Saturday.
The Nov. 1 match was Memphis’ first competition since Oct. 13.
In Saturday’s top-10 match-up, the Huskers took both smallbore (2309-2284) and air rifle (2358-2341) on the way to the win.
Lee was the Tigers’ top finisher in smallbore with a score of 575. Senior Max Burkhardt was seventh in smallbore with a 572.
In air rifle, Broughton led the Memphis charge with her fourth-place finish (588), while Lee tied for fifth with a 586.
Memphis returns to action next weekend when it takes to the road to face No. 1 West Virginia and No. 14 Akron. The Tigers meet the top-ranked Mountaineers in Morgantown, W.Va., Nov. 8 and then square off against the Zips in Akron, Ohio, Nov. 9.
