Tigers Cruise To Third-Straight 7-0 Decision with Win Over Butler

INDIANAPOLIS--The Memphis Tigers cruised to their third-straight 7-0 victory as they knocked off Butler University on Sunday. The 59th-ranked U of M now stands at 5-1 this spring season as the Bulldogs fall to 2-4 overall.
Memphis rolled through doubles play with wins on all three courts to gain the first point of the dual. Juniors Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray finished first on court three with an 8-3 win over Ashley Breitenbach and Angelina Qin before 47th-ranked pair Alyssa Hibberd and Tiffany Welcher knocked off Stephanie Gabreille McLoughlin and Rubenstein at the top slot by the same score.
Stefanie Mikesz and Mariya Slupska rounded out doubles action with and 8-4 victory at the No. 2 slot.
In singles, the Tigers soared to straight-set wins on all six courts. Ranked 98th in the nation in singles, Slupska saw action at the top flight for the second time this season, and now stands at 2-0 at No. 1 and 6-0 overall. Additionally, Welcher, Collins, Mikesz, Hibberd and Gray all tacked on another win to their season singles records.
Memphis netters will now head back to the Bluff City to prepare for possible invitations to the WTA Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and for their first and only home match of the season against MSTU on Feb. 18 at 5 p.m.
