Marshall rebounded in the third set, quickly gaining an 8-3 lead. Memphis tried to dig their way out of the hole, and got within two points twice, but couldn't get any closer. The Thundering Herd answered with a 5-0 run, en route to the 25-18 victory to take a 2-1 lead.
With the score tied at nine in the fourth set, Memphis' offense started clicking. They scored six straight points, capped by a Kostic kill to open up a 15-9 lead. Following a Thundering Herd point, Memphis wend on a 6-0 run, opening up a 21-10 lead following one of Lauren Hawkins' nine kills in the match. The Tigers went on to take the set on back-to-back kills by Veronica Zimmerman and Kostic. Memphis closed the set on a 16-2 run, recording 12 kills on 28 attempts with one error for an attack percentage of .393.With the crowd behind them, the Tigers opened the fifth set on a roll. Jovanovic recorded consecutive kills and a Marshall attack error gave Memphis a quick 5-2 lead. The Tigers opened up a 12-8 lead following an Altrese Hawkins kill, but Marshall didn't give up easily. They came back and got within 13-12 before Jovanovic thwarted their momentum with her 10th kill of the match. Memphis then scored the last points to take the set 15-12 and the 3-2 comeback victory.
Altrese Hawkins led the Tigers with 16 kills while Kostic followed with a career-high 15 kills. Jovanovic was the final Tiger in double figures with her 10 kills to go along with seven blocks. The Tigers set a season-high with 12 blocks, and were led by Katie Meyer's career-high nine stuffs. Aleksandra Petronijevic reached the 30 dig plateau for the second time this season, recording a match-high 33 digs. Zimmerman posted a double-double with 48 assists and 14 digs.Memphis will be back in action on Sunday when they host East Carolina on Senior Day at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
