Memphis, Tenn. - Las Cruces High School midfielder Alena Strnadova has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the University of Memphis women's soccer program as announced Wednesday. Strnadova is the first of seven signees for the Lady Tigers 2010-11 signing class.
"Alena is someone that will not only add depth in the midfield, but we feel she is the type of player that can make an immediate impact," Head Coach Brooks Monaghan said. "She is a very technical player that reads the game extremely well. She has the mentality you look for in an athlete and she can score goals."
Strnadova joins her sister, Vendula, and the three-time defending C-USA Champions. Strnadova has received four letters on the varsity soccer team at Las Cruces High School. She is a three-time All-District First Team honoree and a two-time 5A All-State First Team Selection.
"It is very exciting to think about her and her sister, Vendula, playing in the midfield together for us," Monaghan said. "Alena is an all-around, extremely talented soccer player that has also played for her respective country, bringing that international experience to our program. She is a player that can do it all and we are obviously very excited to have her join the program and I am confident Alena has a very bright future in front of her at the University of Memphis."
As a member of the LC Sharks, Strnadova has helped the squad claim two top-three finishes in New Mexico State Cup play. She was a member of the 2004-06 New Mexico State ODP team. Since 2007, Strnadova has been a member of the U-17 and U-19 Czech Republic National Team. Strnadova is currently on the team scheduled to compete in March in preparation of the U-20 World Cup in Germany this summer.
Strnadova is the daughter of Jana and Ivan Strnadova.
