Lady Tigers Dominate Arkansas Tech, 6-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory over Arkansas Tech on Sat., Feb. 27 at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark. With the win, The Lady Tigers improved to 6-10 on the season.
Memphis ended the road trip to Fayetteville with one win and two losses. Earlier on Saturday, the Tigers played with only five players, in the match against the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech, Amanda Brown returned to give the Tigers the full compliment of players.
In doubles, the Lady Tigers swept the Golden Suns to take the early lead in the match, 1-0. At the No. 1 spot, Ashley Murdock and Marjorie Ondeck improved to 5-9 on the season with a 8-0 win over Brittany Turner and Saki Matsuoka.
At the No. 2 doubles spot, Kelly Gray and Andrea Arques-Garcia upended Michelle Yu and Emorie Mallow, 8-1.
At the No. 3 slot, Amanda Brown and Dara Touclh defeated Jessica James and Nina Greenway, 8-1.
In singles, Murdock, back-to-back All-C-USA selection, upended Yu, 6-0, 6-0. With the win, Murdock improves to 9-7 on the 2010 spring season.
At the No. 2 spot, Brown had to retire in her match due to the injuries that kept her out of the Oklahoma match earlier in the day, giving the win to Matsuoka of Arkansas Tech.
At No. 3 singles, Ondeck picked up a 6-1, 6-0, win over Turner. Ondeck's record now stands at 5-8 in her senior season.
At the No. 4 slot, Arques-Garcia, a freshman from Alicante, Spain, upended Mallow, 6-2, 6-0. The win is Arques-Garcia's third singles win on the year. The newcomer is progressively getting used to playing on hard courts after spending her entire previous career in Spain playing on clay courts.
At No. 5 singles, Gray, a freshman from Murfreesboro, Tenn., defeated Jessica Velasquez, 6-0, 6-2.
At the No. 6 spot, Toulch, a senior from Montreal, Quebec, won 6-2, 6-0, over James.
The Lady Tigers will return to the court when they head to Arizona for matches with the Wildcats of Arizona and the Sun Devils of Arizona State. The Tigers will face Arizona State on Mar. 10 and Arizona State on Mar. 12.
