MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - The University of Memphis women's tennis team must like the great outdoors. The Lady Tigers posted a shutout of Tennessee Tech in their first outdoor match of the season, Saturday afternoon.
"We played well and are getting better and better with every match," Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker said.
Memphis opened by winning the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3 singles, while the No. 1 team of Lindsey Wiseman and Dara Toulch fell 8-4.
In singles, Memphis won three of the bottom four singles matches to close out the win, including a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 from Toulch and a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 from Wiseman. Ondeck scored the other Memphis point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
The Lady Tigers will now open a six-match road swing at No. 58 South Alabama, Tuesday, at 1 p.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. South Alabama is a perfect 7-0 on the season and is coming off a 4-3 win over No. 75 Mississippi State on Monday.
That match is part of the Lady Tigers' spring break trip that includes a stop in Pensacola, Fla. against NCAA Division II West Florida, the No. 5 ranked team in the country in NCAA Division II.
