• Freshman centerfielder Kim Sirman and freshman pitcher Rayna McClinton both made their first collegiate starts in the game.
• Freshman pitcher Janelle Valle made her first collegiate appearance, entering the game in the fourth inning. She pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing no runs on two hits.
• Junior first baseman Leila Dolfo registered the Tigers' first hit of the season in the team's first at bat to lead off the game. Dolfo singled down the left side and later came around to score the first run of the game.
• After allowing the first two Illinois batters to reach base on a walk and a single to lead off the game, freshman Rayna McClinton retired the next eight batters in a row.
• Senior right fielder Lindsay Kelso went 2-for-4 in the game with two doubles and an RBI. The two doubles are a career high and ties the Memphis single game record, which has been accomplished several times. Kelso had eight doubles in 2007. It is the sixth multi-hit game of her career.
• Redshirt freshman shortstop Heather Mott went 1-for-3 with a RBI double and a walk in her first appearance since suffering a broken leg in practice 10 games into the 2007 season.
• Junior left fielder Leandra Hines went 2-for-4 in the game after singling in her first two at bats. Hines came around to score both teams she reached base.
• The game marked the first ever softball match-up between Memphis and Illinois.
