California Pitcher Signs NLI with Memphis

MEMPHIS - Ridgeview High senior pitcher Carly Hummel signed a National Letter of Intent to join the University of Memphis softball program it was announced on Tuesday. Hummel is the fourth and final signee by the Tigers during the early signing period for their 2009-10 class.
The Bakersfield, Calif., native has lettered three years as a pitcher and shortstop at Ridgeview coached by Jerry Dumatralt. She is a three-time all-league selection and two-time all-area.
Hummel totals 18 career no hitters and had a 17-6 record as a junior last season with the Wolf Pack. She finished the year with a 0.42 ERA and a Kern County best 334 strikeouts. Hummel had a career high 29 strikeouts in a 14-inning, 1-0 game against Golden Valley in 2008.
"Carly is a phenomenal pitcher and we are so excited that she has chosen Memphis as her University," said Memphis head coach Windy Thees. "She will be able to come in here and join our pitching staff and has the ability to make a tremendous contribution even as a freshman. "
Hummel enters her senior year with 820 career strikeouts and a 0.61 ERA. She was a runner up central section in 2007.
On the club level, Hummel's 18 and under SoCal Athletics squad came in fifth at nationals. She also helped her 16U BV Connection to a second place finish at nationals.
Hummel is the daughter of Bradley and Monica Hummel.
