Tiger Soccer Cracks Top 25

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis men's soccer stormed onto the national scene under head coach Richie Grant, and for the fourth time in as many years, the Tigers have cracked the top-25 in a major national poll.
Soccer America released yesterday its updated Men's Top-25 poll, which places Memphis in a three-way tie for No. 25 with Akron and Louisville, who the Tigers beat 1-0 to open the 2007 season. This is the fourth consecutive year that Memphis has been ranked nationally, reaching as high as No. 10 in 2004 when they went to the NCAA tournament and No. 15 last year.
Four current Tigers have contributed to the program's success since the 2004 season. Jared Britcher, Adam Montgomery, Tyler Strom and Michael Coburn all contributed to the Tigers' conference championship in 2004 and have been the core around which Coach Grant has built on that season's success.
Currently ranked No. 4 in the National Soccer Coaches Association's (NSCAA) Midwest Region poll, the Tigers travel to Huntington, W.Va., tomorrow to take on the Thundering Herd of Marshall University on Wednesday. Marshall holds the NSCAA's No. 9 ranking in the region and holds a 1-1-0 record in Conference USA play (7-4-1 overall).
The Tigers will return to Memphis and host the South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday night at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. South Carolina currently holds the No. 4 ranking in the NSCAA South Region poll and is receiving votes toward the top-25 in several national polls.
