Track & Field heads to SEMO Gatorade Invitational

CAPE GIRARDEAU-The University of Memphis Men's and Women's track teams will travel to compete in the SEMO Gatorade Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Abe Stuber Track and Field Complex. Twenty-five teams will compete in the meet this weekend.
Teams competing in the meet are Illinois State, Memphis, Murray State, Southwest Missouri, Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Southern Indiana, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Western Illinois and Danville Community College. Austin Peay and Lipscomb will only bring women's teams and Tennessee State and Rend Lake Community College will only compete on the men's side.
The meet this weekend will be a scored meet with women's and men's team winners. There is also a combined men and women's team score. Last year Memphis men's team won the men's championship scoring 152 points. The Tigers scored big points in the sprinting events where Ivan Williams, Gary Nemeth, Franck Diadhiou and Michael Woods placed 1-4 in both the 100m and 200m.
Competition will begin Friday evening at 4 p.m. with the Hammer Throw. This is the only event that is scheduled for Friday and all other events will begin Saturday at 11 a.m.
