Tigers Open Outdoor Season with a Strong Performance at Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– Memphis track and field opened their outdoor season with a dominant performance at the Rhodes Invitational at Crain Field.
The Tigers secured 20 victories, 31 top-five finishes and 33 personal-bests. A full list of the 20 wins, top-five finishes and PRs can be found below. Comprehensive meet results can be found in the link above.
The Tigers swept the top spots in seven different events, where both the men and women took home titles: the pole vault, triple jump, discus throw, javelin throw, 10,000-meter run, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.
On the track, both Ann-Marie Braese and Robert Randall won their 10,000-meter races, respectively. Braese put up a career-best time of time of 37:30.04 while Randall did the same with a time of 31:01.21.
The team of Gizel Clayton, Rickaiya Whitman, Alex Allen and Kaseiana Meriweather brought home the 4x100-meter relay title with a time of 45.94. The men also conquered the 4x100-meter relay race with a time of 41.11 via Bryson Wilson, Jacari Simpson, Jaylen Foster and Kouto Anyika.
The women's 4x400-meter "B" team of Kaseiana Meriweather, Rickaiya Whitman, Jaida Williams-Goins and Dejona Simpson secured a top-five finish with a time of 3:56.43. The men's squad also found success in the 4x400-meter relay, crossing the line in 3:14.56 behind the efforts of Kouto Anyika, Jacari Simpson, Bryson Wilson, Courtland Noble and Tyler Bickerman.
Julia Amaral and Jonathan Grizzle took care of business in the pole vault, capturing victories for the Tigers. Salvi cleared 3.20 meters while Grizzle vaulted 4.40 meters.
Trinity Brown and Oageng Mdlela knocked out the competition in the triple jump, with Brown jumping a personal-best 11.94 meters and Mdlela setting another career-best of 14.99 meters to bring home two victories for Memphis.
Meghan Porterfield had an outstanding weekend by winning the discus throw at 49.11 meters and hammer throw at 53.57 meters. Both throws set a new personal-best for the sophomore. Jamal Mitchell set a new personal-best of 49.62-meters to join Porterfield for a victory in the discus throw.
In their first event of the year, both Isabelle Cruickshank and Marek Waltke crushed the competition in the javelin throw. Cruickshank threw 51.41 meters while Waltke threw 67.10 meters for a new career-high for both individuals.
Jaida Williams-Goins secured first place in the 100-meter with a time of 14.43. Judy Elful set a new career-best at the 800-meter at 2:21.43 to bring home a victory for the Tigers.
Lilith Stenger won her first collegiate event at the high jump with a jump of 1.67-meters.
Jazmyn James brought home a victory in the shot put with a throw of 15.24-meters.
Jean Yves Thiemele Marco crushed the competition in the long jump by jumping 7.00-meters for a first place finished.
Tigers look to bring this momentum into next weekend in Starkville, Mississippi, at the Bulldogs Relays that start on Thursday, March 26.
