Rifle Finishes Second at Tiger Open

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Led by All-America sophomore Beth Tidmore (Decatur, Ga.), the University of Memphis rifle team finished second at the Tiger Open over the weekend. The University of Texas-El Paso won the team title with a 1,529, while Memphis finished second with a 1,522. Tidmore won the individual title, while freshman Katie Benjamin (Colchester, Vt.) finished second with a 387. The Tigers' 1522 team-score was its highest-ever score in the Tiger Open.
"I'm extremely pleased with my team," Head Coach Butch Woolbright said. "Our freshmen got off to a good start too."
Junior JB Vaughn shot a 378 to finish 15th for the Tigers and the remainder of the squad had career weekends, as senior Bobby Lablanc (Bartlett, Tenn.) tied his career best with a 374, while walk-on freshman Sarah Carr shot a 366, a new personal best for the freshman from Murfreesboro, Tenn. Lablanc finished 19th overall and Carr finished 32nd.
The rifle team also competed Saturday at Ole Miss in a tournament. Due to the tournament format which involves competition spread over a number of days due to the number of available spaces for competition, the results will be released Tuesday after the last teams shoot.
