Tiger Rifle Squad Takes Title at Birmingham Southern

University of Memphis rifle All-American Beth Tidmore led the Tigers to the title at the Panther Open hosted by Birmingham Southern with a score of 393. Freshman Katie Benjamin shot 388 which ties her best for the year. The Tigers tied the best air rifle score ever shot by a Memphis squad, 1526. The Tigers defeated BSC, UAB, Mercer, Austin Peay and TCU.
Freshman Sarah Carr shot her personal best 379 and J. B Vaughan had a 366 to round out the team score. Freshman Brian Phillips shot a new personal best, 386, as an individual. The Tigers, as individuals finished in first, third, fifth, seventh and 21st place.
At the Gamecock Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State University the following day, the Tigers had another good performance. Led by Benjamin, a native of Colchester, Vermont, the Tigers set more records. The Tigers as a team shot their highest smallbore (4466), highest air rifle (1536), and highest aggregate total (6002).
]Benjamin had her highest smallbore total, 1154, and had a 384 air rifle total, for her highest aggregate for the year, 1538. Freshman Sarah Carr again shot a new personal best 385 air rifle as did senior Bobby Leblanc with a 378. Squadded for the smallbore team were Benjamin, Tidmore, Vaughan and Leblanc. Squadded for the air team were Benjamin, Tidmore, Carr and Phillips.
The Tigers came in third place behind Jacksonville State and Tenn. Tech, but defeated conference rival TCU. Tidmore and Benjamin both recorded their highest collegiate scores in the air rifle division this past weekend.
The Tigers are currently rated 11th in the nation in air rifle, which is their highest ranking ever in the program's history.
