After being named to the Conference USA First-Team on Monday, Memphis rookie Dajuan Wagner picked up some more hardware Tuesday when he was named C-USA's Freshman of the Year as well as selected to the league's All-Freshman team.
Wagner has been one of the most prolific scorers in school and conference history, averaging 21.4 points per game for the Tigers and ranks 19th nationally in scoring. His 641 points this season ranks sixth all-time in Memphis history. He is just 66 points shy of former Saint Louis standout Larry Hughes' C-USA freshman scoring record.
Wagner is the first Memphis player to pick up a freshman/newcomer of the year award since Lorenzen Wright was named the Great Midwest Conference's Newcomer of the Year in 1995. Anfernee Hardaway also picked up that honor in 1992.
Memphis had three Freshmen of the Year during its days in the Metro Conference - Keith Lee (1982), Sylvester Gray (1987) and Elliot Perry (1988).
Joining Wagner on this year's Conference USA All-Freshman Team was East Carolina's Moussa Badiane, Marquette's Travis Diener, Cincinnati's Jason Maxiell and TCU's Corey Santee.
Also Tuesday the league announced Maxiell was the league's Sixth Man of the Year while Cincinnati's Immanuel McElroy was named C-USA's Defensive Player of the Year.
