Tigers Suffer Narrow 4-3 Loss to Ole Miss

Memphis, Tenn. - Claes Lindholm of Ole Miss defeated Alex Bucewicz of Memphis in the third and deciding set at number five singles to clinch a 4-3 win for 5th-ranked Ole Miss over 51st-ranked Memphis in men's tennis action Thursday. With the team score knotted at 3-3, Bucewicz had a 3-2 lead in the final set before Lindholm stormed back winning four straight games.
Memphis started by winning the doubles point. Ben Stapp and Lee Taylor Walker defeated Martin Selin and Kristofer Stahlberg, 8-4, at number one while Michael Chamberlain and Joe Schmulian defeated Paul Ciorascu and Catalin Gard, 8-5, at number two to capture the point.
In singles, Memphis won two matches while Ole Miss won four. The Tigers's winners were Lee Taylor Walker at number four and Michael Chamberlain at number six. Walker won for the fourth consecutive match defeating Ciorascu in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Chamberlain was down 5-2 in the first set before storming back for a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win over Patrick Chucri.
The loss snaps the Tigers winning streak which had reached six. Memphis is now 10-5 on the season with three of those five losses coming to top-30 teams and two of them by narrow 4-3 margins. Ole Miss is now 11-3.
The Tigers return to action next weekend at the 23rd Annual Anteater Classic in Irvine, California. Memphis is the top seed in the eight team tournament hosted by California-Irvine.
