Rifle Finishes Second at Birmingham-Southern Rifle Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - Texas Christian fired a 1512 behind a 389 from Stacy Phillips Hughes and a 385 from Sherri Jo Gallagher as the Horned Frogs took the 2002 Birmingham-Southern Rifle Invitational Title over the weekend. Memphis finished second with a 1503 team score, narrowly edging out Birmingham-Southern's new school record result of 1501.
Hughes and Gallagher finished first and second, respectively for TCU. Beth Tidmore of Memphis fired a 382 to finish third while Dawn Stanfield (381) and Janet Palmer (377) of Birmingham-Southern rounded out the top-five. BSC's Sarah Hibbard (376) was sixth. Memphis placed Justin Canabis, Charity Koone and J.B. Vaughan seventh through ninth. TCU's Celeste Green rounded out the top 10 collegiate shooters.
The result moves Birmingham-Southern to 13-8 on the season after a 2-2 day. Their wins came over UAB, which finished fourth of collegiate teams with a 1238, and Mercer (1123).
BSC's other shooters included Ashley Powell (367-11th place) and Kate Peinhardt (344-15th).
The Panthers moved on to Jacksonville Sunday afternoon where they competed in the Jacksonville State Invitational.
