Atlanta, Ga.-- - The University of Memphis men's tennis team (4-3) opened the second half of a 10-match road schedule with a 6-1 win over host Georgia State, Thursday.
The Tigers and the Panthers each took one doubles match, with Memphis team of Jack Hu and Michael LaHaie downing the No. 3 GSU team, 8-0. With the Panthers winning the No. 1 match over Alistair Todd and Ben Stapp, the decision for the doubles point came down to the No. 2 doubles match between the Memphis team of Michael Chamberlain and Joe Schmulian and the Panther duo of Albano Franco and Fernando Damus. Chamberlain and Schmulain were up 7-6 when the Panthers held serve for a 7-7 tie. The No. 2 team then broke Schmulian's serve to go up 8-7 before the Tigers broke back to force a tie-breaker at 8-8. It was all Memphis in the tiebreaker, with the Tigers winning the tiebreaker 7-2.
