Tiger Volleyball Defeats Samford 3-0

MEMPHIS, TENN. - The University of Memphis Tiger volleyball team stepped outside of Conference USA action and defeated Samford, 3-0, here Tuesday evening. Memphis won the match by game scores of 30-24, 30-18 and 30-21.
Senior Amie Hamilton broke the C-USA record for service aces in a career when she served up a match-high seven aces in the three games. Hamilton now holds the C-USA career record with 198 aces and has 12 more regular season matches to improve on that mark. Hamilton's top-spin jump serve stunned Samford as she recorded seven of Memphis' 12 aces in the match. Hamilton also powered the offense with 31 assists.
"I was very proud of how hard we played tonight," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "I am especially proud of Amie in that she was able to break the C-USA record for aces. She served very well tonight and was very consistent. We are going to have to continue to stay focused heading into this weekend because Louisville and Cincinnati will be very tough competition for us."
Senior Adrianne Edmonds led the Memphis offense with 12 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. She also led the squad in digs with nine. Seniors Ginger Garrett and Emily Eichmann also totaled double-digit kills with 11 apiece. Eichmann recorded a .429 hitting mark, while Garrett followed with a .400 hitting clip.
Samford hit just .137 for the match while the Tigers boasted a .298 team hitting mark. Stefanie Pickett hit .500 with four kills in attempts and Whitney Miller hit .500 with three kills in six attempts. Abby Miner led Samford defensively with nine digs. She also totaled a team-high nine kills and one solo and one assisted block.
The Tigers will host Louisville and Cincinnati on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Louisville is second in the conference with a 12-3 overall record, 7-2 in C-USA, while Cincinnati leads the league with an 8-1 league record.
