Millard Davis came to the University of Memphis as a junior college transfer from Holmes Junior College in Mississippi. The Cave Rock, Illinois, native lettered in both basketball and baseball for the Tigers. For two seasons Davis was second on the basketball team in scoring behind all-American Forest Arnold. He averaged 14.7 points per game for the 1954-55 Tiger team that received the University’s first NCAA Tournament bid. Also a gifted baseball player, Davis played outfield for the U of M and during the 1954 season batted .318. After graduation Davis was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks of the NBA but was called to duty in the U.S. Army. Following his military career, Davis started in the insurance business and expanded his territory as far West as California. He opened numerous automobile dealerships in California and has several patents on inventions he has created.
