Koelling coached three student-athletes to all-conference honors in the jumps. Noah Agnew (men) and Saida Burns-Moore (women) both won silver in the high jump at the league indoor meet, and Jordan Wesner (men) took bronze in the high jump at the conference outdoor meet. All three qualified for the 2018 NCAA East Preliminaries. Burns-Moore set the school’s outdoor record in the high jump with a 5-10.5 (1.79m) effort.
Koelling also was a part of the staff that guided Memphis to a record-setting season in 2017-18. The Tigers sent school-record contingents to the NCAA East Preliminaries (23 qualifiers) and NCAA Outdoor Championships (9 qualifiers). Memphis set 15 school marks in the indoor and outdoor seasons combined – a school record. In addition, the Tigers placed a school-record 17 student-athletes on the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team.
The Wamego, Kan., native joined the Memphis program after one year with Rush Sports Performance in Phoenix, Ariz. In that same year, he also co-founded and served as head coach of Jumps University, a program for high school athletes to maximize their abilities and be mentally and physically prepared for college.
Prior to his one year with Rush Sports Performance, Koelling spent six seasons as the jumps and sprints coach at Southeast Missouri from 2010-16. He was a member of six Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) championship teams, including a sweep of the 2014 OVC men's indoor and outdoor crowns. In his time there, the Redhawks also won OVC team titles in women's indoor (2013), women's outdoor (2014), men's indoor (2015) and men's outdoor (2016).
Koelling also guided several Redhawks student-athletes to individual titles. He coached 23 individuals OVC champions and had 26 others finish as OVC runners-up. Under Koelling's direction, 26 Southeast Missouri student-athletes competed at the NCAA West Preliminaries, and from there, nine earned NCAA Championships berths. Koelling coached five All-Americans at Southeast Missouri.
His student-athletes also set eight school records in the jumps and sprints during his six seasons in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Before moving to coaching ranks, Koelling was a standout jumper at Emporia State University from 2007-10. In his Hornets' career, he finished 12th in the triple jump at the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships and ninth in the triple jump at the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor meet.
Koelling, who graduated from Emporia State in 2011, also earned his master’s degree in sports coaching from the University of Northern Colorado in 2015. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
