Kenneth A. “KJ” Woodard Jr. returns to his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee as the University of Memphis women’s basketball athletic trainer after spending the previous three years at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
Woodard Jr. brings 14 years of experience having had the opportunity to care for athletes at every level from high school, clinical, NFL and internationally, as well as a variety of Division I sports.
Prior to his stint at LU, Woodard Jr. came from Hopkinsville High School in Hopkinsville, Ky., where he served as the head athletic trainer since March 2012. Prior to his time in Hopkinsville, he was the head athletics trainer for men’s basketball at the University of South Florida.
A 2003 graduate of Arkansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training, Woodard Jr. earned a Master of Science degree in exercise, fitness and health promotions from George Mason University in 2005.
After earning his master’s degree at George Mason, Woodard Jr. served as interim head athletics trainer at Grambling State University for one year before serving as an intern on the training staff of the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. Woodard Jr. also spent more than three years on the staff of Baptist Sports Medicine in Nashville, Tenn., providing training services to the Tennessee Titans of the NFL.
Woodard Jr. has certifications from the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification and the National Academy of Sports Medicine among others. He is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Woodard Jr. currently resides in Olive Branch, Miss. with family.
