Ashley Barlow joined the Memphis Tigers coaching staff as an assistant coach prior to head coach Katrina Merriweather's first season of 2021-22. She was with Merriweather for all five seasons at Wright State, where the duo went 113-47 with four postseason appearance.
She had worked with All-Conference players Mackenzie Taylor, Michal Miller and Angel Baker. The 2017 squad saw the first WNIT win in program history as well as a vote in a national poll.
Barlow came to Wright State after three years as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville, where her responsibilities included working with the scoring guards, assisting with recruiting, scouting of opponents, and other day-to-day operations. She coached and mentored Co-FOY and first-teamer Sara Dickey. Barlow came to Evansville after spending two seasons as an assistant at IUPUI.
In her two seasons at IUPUI, Barlow worked with the guards and was in charge of travel and film exchange, while assisting with recruiting, scouting and game planning. There she coached and developed players who earned first team, second team, FOY, All-Defensive and All-Newcomer honors, In 2012-13, Barlow helped guide the Jaguars to a 20-12 record and the program’s first Postseason WNIT berth.
Prior to her coaching career, Barlow completed an historic career at Notre Dame in 2010, where she emerged as one of the most versatile players in Fighting Irish history. She is the only player in Notre Dame basketball history, male or female, to eclipse 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 steals in a career. A native of Indianapolis, Barlow played professionally in Israel for Elitzur Rishon Le-Zion during the 2010-11 season, where she averaged 20.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Prior to starring at Notre Dame, Barlow played at Pike (Ind.) High School where she was a WBCA High School All-American and a two-time all-state selection.
Prior to starring at Notre Dame, Barlow played at Pike High School where she was a WBCA High School All-American and a two-time all-state selection. She holds 12 school records at Pike, including marks for points in game (42), season (653) and career (1,726), as well as career scoring average. She was a 2006 Indiana All-Star.
Barlow earned a bachelor's of arts degree in business management-entrepreneurship and a bachelor's of science degree in sociology in 2010.
