Abby Jump joined the Memphis Tigers for head coach Katrina Merriweather's first season of 2021-22 after the pair was together at Wright State, Jump's alma mater, for three seasons. The Raiders were 65-27 with two NCAA Tournament trips and two Horizon League championships in those three seasons.
In her playing and coaching careers at Wright State, the Raiders went 149-76, and she developed into one of the best up-and-coming assistant coaches in college basketball.
A Union, Ky., native, she helped guide the Raiders to the 2014 NCAA Tournament as a junior under head coach Mike Bradbury. As a junior and senior, she ranked first in the Horizon League in 3-point percentage, shooting 46 percent from three-point range, and tied for 12th in the league in 3-pointers made with 25 her senior year.Â
Â
As a coach at Wright State, her scouting was pivotal as it established itself at the top of the Horizon League. Jump was instrumental in the development and mentoring of Symone Simmons, as she earned second-team honors.
Before returning to Wright State, Jump helped coach Morehead State to a 42-21 record and the program’s first postseason appearance since 2010. She coached and mentored four first- and second-team all-conference players as well as helped sign the highest nationally-ranked recruiting class in school history. The Eagles reached the 20-win plateau for just the seventh and eighth time in school history, resulting in the program's first-ever appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament in 2017 and the first post-season appearance since 2010. She coached and mentored four first- and second-team all-conference players as well as signed the highest nationally ranked class in school history.
Jump came to Morehead State after spending the 2015-16 season as the director of women's basketball operations at Bucknell University, where she was responsible for creating weekly schedules, sending out recruiting mailers, arranging team travel and coordinating the team's community service efforts. She graduated from Wright State in 2014 after playing high school basketball at Ryle (Ky.), where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019. At the time of graduation, she ranked fifth all-time in Kentucky basketball history with 81 3-pointers made.
A Women's Basketball Coaches Assocation (WBCA) 30 Under 30 Award Recipient for the past four years, Jump has been featured on The Steve Fro Podcast and On the Prowl Podcast.Â
Jump earned her bachelor's of science degree in organizational leadership in 2014.
