Ryan McPhail joined the Memphis men's basketball program as equipment manager in 2014-15. With the Tigers, he handles the apparel and footwear of the program in conjunction with the program's Nike contract. He is also responsible for the daily scheduling and training of the program's student-managers.
McPhail most recently came from UCF, where he worked since 2008, and was assistant equipment manager for four of the Knights' athletic programs. While at UCF he was responsible for managing the budgets for the four varsity sports, and also oversaw the Letterman Award system for all 17 varsity sports, including ordering, issuing and record keeping.
He also evaluated, trained, hired and supervised a student staff and assisted in the daily operation of the baseball and men's soccer program, including accommodating visiting teams, school personnel, and umpires/officials when they visited campus. He also maintained relationships with vendors outside of the school, and assisted in the contract details of equipment contracts, outside of Nike, for the individual sports.
Prior to his time at UCF, he was a student and graduate assistant at the University of Memphis. From January 2003 until August 2007 he was a student-assistant for the equipment manager for the football and softball teams. From August 2007 to August 2008 he was a graduate assistant, also with the football and softball teams.
He graduated from Memphis in August 2007 with a degree in sport and leisure studies, with a concentration in sport management. He earned his Master of Science degree in sport and leisure commerce from Memphis in August 2008.
He is certified with the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA).
McPhail, his wife Beverly, and his daughters, Avonelle and Pashby, currently reside in Olive Branch, Miss.
