Henson, a native of Cordova, Tenn., comes to Memphis with an extensive background in playing and coaching. Henson strung together a successful career at Cordova High School where he was named All-District 14AAA and named to the All-District Tournament Team, selected to the Commercial Appeal's All-Metro Team, earned All-State honors in his junior and senior campaigns and was selected as a "Best of the Preps" finalist for two years.
Following a noteworthy prep career, Henson was drafted in 2005 to the Seattle Mariners. He would spend the next five season with Seattle and the Houston Astros organizations. Henson got the call to AA at just 19 years-old and was part of the 2007 Arizona League (AZL) Championship Team.
As a coach, Henson is a 10-year veteran that has coached two All-SEC Freshmen of the Year players, Kyle Overstreet from Alabama and Jake Mangum from Mississippi State, who is the SEC's all-time hits leader, plus multiple other Division I players and MLB draft picks.
