Tigers Close Nonconference Play by Hosting the Rumble at the Roane

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team will close its six-game homestand by hosting the Rumble at the Roane Thursday, Sept. 17 through Saturday, Sept. 19 inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
The Tigers open the tournament against Southern Miss on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. before closing the weekend Sept. 19 against Little Rock at 1 p.m. Both matches will air on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (3-6) is coming off a historic win against Ole Miss on Tuesday evening. It was the program's first victory over the Rebels since 2018 and first at home since 2005. Caitlyn Little led the Tigers with 24 kills and 26 points, while Amanda Hardt recorded 11 kills and 12 points. Sydney Marshall was the other Tiger to register a double-double, dishing out 41 assists alongside 13 digs. Kaylee Parker set a career high with eight blocks, while Dawn Moore posted a career-high seven kills and four blocks.

Southern Miss (8-1) enters the weekend on a four-match winning streak after defeating Houston Christian, Lamar, Southern and Jackson State at the Southern Miss Invitational. Sadie McAda led the Eagles offensively with 52 kills, averaging 4.00 per set over the four matches. Allie Hazelwood dished out 153 assists, averaging 11.77 per set, recording 30-plus assists in all four tournament matches, including a 57-assist performance against Lamar. Lillie Johnson and Elly Stewart lead the defensive front with double-digit blocks.
Little Rock (6-3) went 1-2 at the Air Force Academy Tournament last week, defeating Tennessee Tech after falling to Air Force and Idaho State. Avery Fearnley led the Trojan offense with 33 kills, averaging 3.30 per set. Lily King recorded 56 assists, Skyler Perez logged 36 digs, and Alyssa Boyete added 12 blocks, averaging 1.20 per set. The Trojans will travel to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to face Southeast Missouri State on Wednesday evening before making the trip to Memphis.
THE SERIES BETWEEN THE EAGLES & TROJANS
Thursday marks the 47th meeting between Memphis and Southern Miss, with the Tigers holding a 26-20 series advantage, including a 13-9 mark at home. Southern Miss won the last matchup in 2023.
Memphis and Little Rock will meet for the 23rd time, with Memphis leading the series 14-8. The Tigers have won five straight against the Trojans, including their last home meeting in 2023.
