Tigers Fall Late as Tulane Slips Past Memphis, 78-76
Feb 01, 2026 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A game that never quite swung fully in its favor slipped away late Sunday afternoon as the Memphis Tigers dropped a 78-76 decision to the Tulane Green Wave at FedExForum.
The setback snaps Memphis' 18-game home winning streak against league opponents and moves the Tigers to 10-11 overall and 5-4 in American Conference play. Tulane, which arrived in Memphis riding a five-game losing streak, improved to 13-9 and 4-5.
Memphis spent much of the afternoon playing from behind, trailing for more than 35 minutes, but found life late. Dug McDaniel knotted the score at 76-76 on a driving jumper with 14 seconds remaining, giving the Tigers a chance to steal the game after chipping away throughout the second half. Tulane answered on the other end, however, converting the go-ahead layup with six seconds left and Memphis couldn't get a final look before time expired.
Offensively, the Tigers leaned heavily on the free-throw line to stay within reach. Memphis made 32 of its 38 attempts at the stripe, offsetting a cold shooting day from the floor (20-of-56) and beyond the arc (4-of-20). Aaron Bradshaw was steady inside, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds before fouling out, while McDaniel added 13 points and four assists. Julius Thedford chipped in 12 and Quante Berry scored 11.
After managing just eight made field goals in the opening half, Memphis went into the break down 39-31. The Tigers gradually closed the gap after halftime, briefly pulling ahead in the second half, but couldn't string together enough stops late as Tulane connected on timely baskets down the stretch. Memphis shot just 27.6 percent in the first half, its lowest shooting percentage of any half this season.
Amercian Conference Preseason Player of the Year Rowan Brumbaugh led all players with 27 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including the game winner with six seconds to play. Asher Woods added 19 points, six rebounds and five assists.
