Tigers Take Down Harvard in Thriller

Memphis, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's tennis team took down Harvard in a close 4-3 contest at Leftwich Tennis Center at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The No. 58 ranked duo of Moritz Kudernatsch/Maxime Dubouch took the first match of the day when they defeated the Harvard pair of Benjamin Privara/Nathan Blokhin by a score of 6-4. Soon after, Sam Reeve/Marcos Castro Fabra clinched the doubles point with a hard-fought 7-5 win over Masato Perera/Elisha Thornton.

The Tigers struggled to start in singles, losing four first sets. Castro Fabra won his first set and earned Memphis' second point of the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Leandro Zgraggen also took the first set of his match before grinding out a second-set tiebreaker to claim a 6-4, 7-6 (1) win for the third Memphis point of the match. After Maxime Dubouch, Sam Reeve and Obrad Markovski all suffered defeats, the score was tied at three, leaving No. 101 Moritz Kudernatsch vs. No. 109 Benjamin Privara as the decider.

Kudernatsch dropped the first set of the match, 4-6, before rebounding with a 6-4 second set win. To start the third set, Kudernatsch broke Privara's serve to claim an early lead. After a series of service holds, Kudernatsch served for the match at 5-4. Down 15-40, Kudernatsch battled back to force a deciding deuce point where he would seal the victory for the Tigers.

Memphis improves to 3-0 on the season and will look to continue the momentum on Saturday, January 24^th when they travel to Drake.
