
Tigers Sweep Texas Southern to Finish Denver Invitational

DENVER – Memphis (4-2) volleyball swept Texas Southern (0-6) in straight sets to close out play at the Denver Invitational Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Memphis and Texas Southern traded points early before the Tigers pulled away with an 8-2 run to close out the set, 25-19. Amanda Hardt and Camryn McCollum paced the offense with five and four kills, respectively, while Maddy Bach dished out 11 assists.
In the second set, both teams went back-and-forth until Memphis went on a 9-2 run to take a 20-8 lead in the set. Texas Southern started to have a comeback with kills from Gracie Hill and Ava Houston but Hardt put up key kills to secure the set, 25-13.
Memphis carried the momentum into the final set, using efficient hitting and steady defense to stay in control. Hardt and Janyah Henderson combined for nine kills in the frame. The Tigers limited Texas Southern to just ten kills in the set and closed out the match with a 25-15 win to clinch the match.
Memphis led statistically across the board, finishing with a 47-27 advantage in kills and a 5.5-1 edge in blocks. The Tigers also recorded 41 assists and 41 digs compared to Texas Southern's 26 assists and 24 digs. Memphis also carried a slight edge in service aces, 5-4.

Memphis returns to Elma Roane Fieldhouse to host the Carrie Yerty Classic from Sept. 11-13. The Tigers open the tournament against Chattanooga on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by Lamar on Friday at 7 p.m., before closing against UT Martin on Saturday at 3 p.m. All Memphis matches during the weekend will be streamed on ESPN+.

- Camryn McCollum made her collegiate debut, recording four kills and two blocks.
- Amanda Hardt and Janyah Henderson led the offense with 15 and 11 kills, respectively.
- Hardt, Henderson and Zaniah Hoskins all eclipsed the 10-point mark in the match, registering 15, 13.5 and 10.5 points, respectively.
- Maddy Bach matched her career high with 34 assists and led the team with four total blocks in the win.
- Abigail Schlueter led the back row with 12 digs, matching her season high.
- Courtney Nix played all three sets in the victory, tallying two service aces and a kill.
