Tigers to Host Southern Illinois on Wednesday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis volleyball returns to nonconference action on Wednesday as the Tigers host Southern Illinois in Elma Roane Fieldhouse. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Tyler Springs on the call.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (9-6, 1-1 American) enters the week after splitting a pair of American Conference matches. The Tigers opened league play with a win at Tulane on Friday before falling to Wichita State on Sunday. Earlier in the week, Memphis swept Mississippi Valley State.
Zaniah Hoskins led the offense with 49 kills and 55.5 points across three matches, averaging 4.90 kills per set and 5.55 points per set. For her performance, she was named the American Conference Freshman of the Week.
Junior middle blocker Janyah Henderson added 16 kills, eight total blocks (three solo), and 22.5 total points. Setter Sydney Marshall recorded three straight matches with 20-plus assists, totaling 62 on the week and setting a career high with 22 against Wichita State.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
Southern Illinois (7-7, 2-0 Missouri Valley) comes to Memphis riding momentum after opening Missouri Valley Conference play with back-to-back four-set wins over Murray State and Evansville in its opening weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play.
Cecilia Bulmahn led the Salukis with 25 kills across two matches, highlighted by a career-high 20 kills against Murray State. Eva Krakowski anchored the defense with a career-high 11 total blocks, including eight solo blocks in the same match.
SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday marks the 22nd meeting between Memphis and Southern Illinois. The Salukis have won the last two meetings, with the most recent being during the 2024 Saluki Bash.
