Memphis Drops Series Finale to 49ers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (16-27, 4-14 AAC) softball was shut out, 4-0, in its series finale against Charlotte (23-22, 11-7).

Memphis will play seven games in Florida over the next two weeks. They will play a conference series against South Florida followed by a midweek nonconference game against Bethune-Cookman, before finishing the road trip against Florida Atlantic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a leadoff triple by Olivia Williams, Jenna Lord tallied the first run of the game for Charlotte with an RBI single.
- In just her third collegiate start as a catcher, Aubrey Williams threw out her second runner of the weekend to end the top of the third inning.
- After Teagan Ritchie reached on a fielding error, Ariel Davis fielded a groundball and turned a 5-3 double play to clear the bases.
- The next batter, Jaylah Jarrell, hit her second home run of the weekend off the left field foul pole.
- In the top of the fifth inning, Ariel Davis made her second strong play of the afternoon, diving for a groundball and throwing out the runner at first.
- Memphis had a scoring chance in the bottom half of the inning, but Drue Thomas was stranded at third base.
- Earlier in the inning, she recorded a single and ended up at third after a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch.
- Jenna Lord recorded her second RBI of the game on her second home run of the weekend to begin the sixth inning.
- After a single to right field where Kari Shedrick made it to third base due to an error, Brelyn O'Hearn doubled to bring home Charlotte's fourth run.
- Jasmine Sanchez was credited with the run after she entered for Shedrick as a pinch runner.
- The Tigers found themselves with runners on first and second after a throwing error and a single, but the runners were stranded after three consecutive outs to end the game.
- In 20 innings played this weekend, Memphis did not have a runner reach base in seven innings.
- Memphis was swept for the second conference series in a row.
- Lyrical Bennett moves to 5-8 on the year with the loss.
- Arianna Cox-Cole now has a five-game hitting streak after recording one hit in the contest.
- Ariel Davis went 1-for-3 at the plate with a single.
- Drue Thomas finished with one hit in the game, going 3-for-7 across the weekend series.
- Neely Taylor made her team-leading 43rd start of the year.
- Kayla Clement went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt in the loss.
