MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball was defeated by Ball State, 83-59, on Saturday afternoon at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
Chae Harris led the Tigers in scoring for the third time this season, posting 20 points. Cori Allen added a season-high 14 points and five rebounds.
Ball State moves to 4-0 on the year behind its third road victory. They shot 10-for-28 from deep and won the rebounding battle, 63-41. The Tigers move to 2-2 ahead of Tuesday night's game against No. 13/16 Ole Miss.
Harris gave Memphis an early lead behind her first of three three-pointers early in the first quarter, but the Cardinals would engineer a 16-3 run across the next five minutes, stifling the Tiger offense and extending their lead to 15 by the end of the frame.
Ball State remained in control in the second quarter, leading 44-20 before Daejah Richmond beat the halftime buzzer with a layup. Grace Kingery, a 31% three-point shooter in her career, lit up the first half with four threes on six attempts.
The lead reached as high as 38 early in the fourth quarter, but Memphis gave its best showing in the final frame, winning the quarter 27-15 to trim the deficit. Jah'Naesia Spiers recorded her first collegiate point at the charity stripe to go with four rebounds and a block.
Kingery led the way for the visitors with 21 points behind six eventual threes, and point guard Karsyn Norman added 14 points and five assists.
The Tigers are back home this Tuesday, November 18, at 7 p.m. to take on the 13th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
