Tigers Hit the Road for Matchups at Wichita State and Tulsa

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis heads on the road to face Wichita State on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before heading to Tulsa on Sunday. These matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis (9-9, 1-3 American) enters the weekend after dropping two matches to UTSA and Rice.
Janyah Henderson led the Tigers' offense with 14 kills and 18 total points over the two matches. Riley McCloskey recorded a career-high 10 kills and 10.5 points against Rice, while Za'Niya Boyles added 11 kills and 13.5 points on the weekend.
Setters Sydney Marshall and Maddy Bach combined for 48 assists, with Bach recording double-digit assists in both matches. Bach ranks fifth in the American with 471 assists and eighth with 7.72 assists per set.
On defense, junior libero Abigail Schlueter led the Tigers with 16 digs (2.67 per set) and added a service ace to bring her career total to 93. Schlueter ranks fifth in the American with 22 aces and seventh with 212 digs this season.
SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS
Wichita State (10-6, 2-2 American) enters the weekend after dropping both matches to Tulsa.
The Shockers are led offensively by Brooklyn Leggett and Sydney Dunning, who combined for 41 kills last weekend. Dunning leads the team with 225 kills this season (3.64 per set), ranking seventh in the conference.
Setter Jordan Heatherly posted 25-plus assists in both matches and ranks second in the American in both assists and assists per set with 533 and 8.88, respectively.
Defensively, Gabi Maas totaled 26 digs over the weekend. Maas ranks fourth in the American in digs with 226, averaging 4.19 per set.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANES
Tulsa (13-3, 3-1 American) enters the weekend riding momentum after sweeping Wichita State in a home-and-home series. The Golden Hurricane will host UAB on Friday before facing Memphis on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Tulsa collected four American weekly honors: Brayden Hipp (Setter of the Week), Maegan Mills (Freshman of the Week), along with Kat Cooper and Oliver Vance (Honor Roll).
Hipp averaged 12.14 assists per set (85 total) and recorded her sixth double-double of the season with double-digit digs. She leads the American with 545 assists, averaging 9.40 per set.
Mills posted back-to-back double-digit kill performances, totaling 30 kills, eight digs, three aces and two blocks over the weekend.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST WICHITA STATE AND TULSA
Memphis trails 4-12 in the all-time series with Wichita State and is searching for its first win since the shortened 2020-21 COVID season. Earlier this season, the Tigers fell to the Shockers in straight sets.
The all-time series between the Tigers and Golden Hurricane stands at 15-24 in favor of Tulsa. Memphis' last victory against the Golden Hurricane came in the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2022.
