Oct 18, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the opening frame, both teams battled point-for-point until Tulsa took advantage of Memphis attack errors to take a 14-9 lead. Génesis Rodriguez and Jasmyn Tate combined for three kills to cut the deficit to two. The Tigers went on a 4-0 run behind a kill from Zaniah Hoskins and three Tulsa attack errors to take a 21-19 lead. Tate and Janyah Henderson sealed the set with back-to-back kills, 25-23.
The second set mirrored the first as both teams traded points early before Memphis used a 3-0 run to pull ahead 11-8. Junior libero Abigail Schlueter recorded two service aces during that stretch. Despite late kills from Tulsa's Olivia Vance, Kat Cooper and Lauren Eitler, Memphis closed strong behind Rodriguez and Hoskins to take the set, 25-20.
Tulsa responded in the third with a 3-0 run to take a 6-4 lead and gained momentum behind Eitler and Vance, who combined for six kills. The Golden Hurricane secured their first set of the night, 25-16.
Tulsa carried its momentum into the fourth with a 4-0 run fueled by Cooper, Eitler and Beth Bayless for an 8-3 advantage. Memphis tried to close the gap with kills from Henderson and Hoskins, but Tulsa stayed in control to win the set, 25-11, and even the match at two sets apiece.
In the decisive fifth set, both teams traded points until Tulsa used a 4-0 run to tie the frame at 10-10. Memphis earned a match point at 14-12, but a Tulsa kill and a Tiger attack error knotted the set at 14-14. A service aces and kill by Tulsa's Jill Hanson resulted in a 16-14 set win for the Golden Hurricane, giving them the match victory.
