Twelve Tigers Earn Prestigious 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award

IRVING, Texas - Twelve University of Memphis student-athletes were recognized among the nation's best in the classroom as the 1A FAR (Faculty Athletics Representative) Board announced the recipients of the 2025 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award.

The prestigious award honors student-athletes who have achieved outstanding academic success while competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics.

Representing Memphis on this year's list were:
Pablo Alemany (Men's Tennis), Rachel Britton (Softball), Sarah Hagg (Women's Soccer), Julia Jarvholm (Women's Golf), Catalina Martinez (Volleyball), Donovan Mathena (Football), Emily Meyer (Women's Tennis), McKaylee Polk (Softball), Eke Reezon (Women's Cross Country/Track), Alyssa Richter (Women's Tennis), Joshua Sloan (Football) and Braunson White (Football).

"Congratulations to the exceptional student-athletes who have been recognized nationally by 1A FAR for their outstanding academic achievements," said Memphis Faculty Athletics Representative Lynda Wray Black. "These twelve student-athletes representing Memphis tennis, football, softball, golf, track and field, and volleyball display the values of the University of Memphis in their commitment to both academic and athletic success. As the President of 1A FAR, I am honored to bestow on them this prestigious recognition."

The 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award is presented annually to student-athletes who have graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or higher and have participated in at least two years of NCAA intercollegiate athletics at a Football Bowl Subdivision institution.

This year's honors come on the heels of another record-setting semester for Memphis Athletics in the classroom. During the Spring 2025 term, Tiger student-athletes posted a departmental GPA of 3.471, the second-highest semester GPA in program history.

It marked the 24th consecutive semester Memphis student-athletes have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and the seventh straight semester with a departmental GPA above 3.2. In total, 86% of all student-athletes earned a 3.0 or better, including 89% of freshmen, while 55 student-athletes (14%) recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Sixteen of the Tigers' 17 programs finished the semester with a team GPA above 3.0. Women's Soccer led the way with a program-record 3.878 GPA, while Men's Soccer (3.669) and Football (3.401) also set new team GPA marks.

The combination of national recognition and record-setting classroom success highlights Memphis Athletics' continued commitment to excellence on the field, in competition, and in the classroom.
