Record 291 Memphis Student-Athletes Named to American Conference All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas – The University of Memphis athletics' success in the classroom during the 2025-26 academic year culminated in a record 291 student-athletes being named to the American Conference's All-Academic Teams.
Memphis' football and women's soccer teams also garnered recognition by earning the Team Academic Excellence Award for the highest 2025-26 grade-point average of any team competiing in American Conference competitions. Additionally, two student-athletes were named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in their respective sports, with Finley Lavin earning the award from women's soccer and Gabriela Zych from the rifle program being named the women's at-large Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the American member and sport affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in an American-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses. The Team Academic Excellence Award winners were chosen based on the 2025-26 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster at the end of the academic year.
The 2025-26 season rounds out a stellar academic year, including 28 fall graduates, 12 summer graduates and 57 spring graduates. Across the cycle, 30 of the 96 graduates earned honors. The Memphis athletic department also recently extended a streak of 25 semesters with a 3.0 GPA or higher after earning a 3.53 GPA in the spring and recording the highest departmental GPA in school history with a 3.559 in the fall of 2025.
In the NCAA's latest Academic Progress Rate (APR), 10 programs at Memphis received a perfect score: men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, volleyball, women's soccer and rifle. The cross country, tennis, women's soccer and volleyball programs were the best in the American in multi-year scores, helping the department finish with an APR score of 989.
